Top 3 talking points for India in Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

Team India lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy on Sunday to Australia with a 3-1 margin. The loss at the Sydney Cricket Ground meant that India were eliminated from the race for the World Test Championships. This was also the first time in a decade that the Australians had got hold of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

The visitors began their tour with a massive win in Perth by 295 runs. The next match in Adelaide saw the hosts win by ten wickets to level the series. The third Test in Brisbane was drawn due to constant rain. The next two matches went the way of the hosts, with wins in MCG by 184 runs and SCG by 6 wickets.

Here are the top 3 talking points for India from Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024:

3. Emergence of Nitish Reddy as all-rounder

Nitish Reddy

21-year-old all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy made his Test debut and impressed everyone with the bat. The youngster did well in the first two test matches of the series. After a quiet game at the Gabba, young Nitish showed why he was picked for the tour. The 21-year-old scored his maiden Test ton while batting at number 8 and became the first Indian to achieve this feat. Not to be outdone, Nitish also bowled well in patches and picked 5 wickets with the ball including two wickets in the SCG match.

2. Jasprit Bumrah turns out to be India’s lone warrior

Jasprit Bumrah

The Indian cricket team has Jasprit Bumrah to thank for all his efforts with the ball. The 31-year-old was bending his back tirelessly as he picked 32 wickets in the series. This feat put Bumrah on par with Harbhajan Singh who had claimed 32 wickets in 2001. The right-arm pacer also picked three fifers and bowled his heart out to single-handedly keep India in the hunt in each of the games.

1. Veteran d

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t play the first Test due to late departure from India. By the time the series had ended, Rohit had scored 31 runs with an average of 6.2 from five outings. His form had taken such a beating that he opted out of the final Test match leading to questions about his Test future. Virat Kohli began the series with five runs in the first game before scoring a ton in the second innings. The next 7 innings yielded just 85 runs as Kohli nicked behind the wicket on eight occasions. During the SCG Test, Kohli had scored just 23 runs and fell to Scott Boland in each outing. The biggest talking point regarding Rohit and Virat is their future in Test cricket and their below-par performance during the BGT 2024 series.
