Spin bowling can be slow and boring to watch, but on pitches, as we have in the subcontinent, spin is the more effective option. Spinners get more turn and bounce on subcontinent wickets. The same was also on show during the recently concluded Women’s T20 League. On a similar note, here are the top three spinners in women’s cricket currently.
3. Ashleigh Gardner, Australia
On number three, we have an all rounder who lit up the stage in India in the recently concluded Women’s T20 League. While she remained one of her team’s better performers, Gujarat had a forgettable season. In 52 ODIs for Australia, she has taken 58 wickets bowling 49 times. In T20Is, her numbers read 53 wickets from 61 innings in 73 matches. She appears in the 10th position on the Women’s T20 bowler’s rankings; in the Women’s ODI bowler’s rankings, she appears on the 13th.
2. Hayley Matthews, West Indies
The next player on this list is the West Indian star allrounder Hayley Matthews. Matthews is the inaugural winner of the Women’s T20 League with Mumbai. Apart from her heroics with the bat, Matthews is a great off-break bowler. She has bowled for her national team in 70 ODIs scalping 89 wickets, and 75 T20Is scalping 78 wickets. She appears in the sixth position on the Women’s bowler rankings for ODIs; on the Women’s T20 bowler rankings she appears on the 11th.
This list is led by the only pure bowler among the current top three spinners in women’s cricket. England’s Sophie Ecclestone is the most accurate turner of the cricket ball in women’s cricket right now. She appears on the top of the rankings for both Women’s ODI and T20 bowlers with rating points of 751 and 801, respectively. In 55 ODIs, Ecclestone has 87 wickets, while in 69 T20Is, she has accumulated an exceptional wicket’s tally of 97. She is also known for maintaining exceptional economy rates of 3.68 in ODIs and 5.76 in T20Is.
