Making a double hundred in an ODI game takes the effort of the highest order. Very few players have been able to breach this barrier and every time it was breached a new record was made or broken. In this article, we will look at the top 3 players to score the fastest double hundred in ODIs.
Ishan Kishan
The first on the list is the dynamite Indian wicketkeeper batter, Ishan Kishan. The left-handed opener smashed a double century against Bangladesh in 2022 at Chattogram. He scored 210 runs in that innings and completed his double-century in just 126 deliveries thereby becoming the fastest player to score a double century. He was also the fourth Indian to achieve this milestone. Kishan got out in the 35th over but he had already scored 210 runs which also reflects the way in which he played his knock.
Glenn Maxwell
The ‘Big Show’ of the Australian team, Glenn Maxwell, is the next name on the list of fastest players to score a double century. The destructive Australian scored his double-century off just 128 deliveries. The fact that it was a double-century makes this knock special but what makes it exceptional is the occasion on which it was played. Maxwell smashed this century against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup and in a situation when his team was reeling in a crisis. Maxwell was also suffering due to cramps but tough players came out on top in the most testing conditions as well.
Pathum Nissanka
The 25-year-old Pathum Nissanka is the latest entry into this list. He recently scored a double century against Afghanistan in the ongoing one-day series also becoming the first Sri Lankan to achieve this milestone. Nissanka completed his double century in 136 deliveries overtaking legends of the game like Chris Gayle and Virender Sehwag. With this, now Nissanka has the highest individual score for a Sri Lankan in an ODI match.
