South Africa had a forgettable T20I series against India. The failure of the top-order batters and the inability of some of the middle-order batters meant that the home side ended up conceding the series 1-3. India was the better side in all aspects of the game. South Africa did not perform well as a team. They were bound to lose.
However, some players did well despite SA not doing well as a team. They performed individually well and also helped their side to claim a win. Additionally, they helped SA to nearly win another match which was way too out of their reach at one stage. The home side would look at the performances of such players as positives from the series.
Here are the three South African players who performed well in the series against India –
1. Gerald Coetzee
Gerald Coetzee wasn’t at his quickest in the series. His average speed was nowhere close to what he could deliver. Despite that, he managed to have a good series both as a batter and as a bowler. The stats might not suggest how good he bowled in the series. There were a lot of dropped catches off his bowling.
Coetzee won SA the second match with his cameo as a lower-order batter after doing well as a bowler. As a batter, he scored 56 runs in 4 innings at a batting average of 28.00, and at a batting SR of 180.65. He claimed a catch and took 4 wickets in 4 innings at a bowling average of 39.00, at a bowling SR of 21.00

2. Tristan Stubbs
Tristan Stubbs showed a good range in his technique. On a slow pitch in Gqeberha and under collapses more often than not, Stubbs anchored the innings well. After getting set, he went for the kill and won his side the 2nd T20I. He was the only batter in the South African top 6 to have applied himself in the series.
Stubbs scored 113 runs in 4 innings at a batting average of 37.67 and a batting SR of 121.51. He additionally took a couple of catches as a fielder. He was handy as a bowler whenever asked to. Tristan showed he could bat on tricky wickets. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a good series for him in terms of the result.
3. Marco Jansen
Marco Jansen was easily the best player in South Africa in the series. The All-rounder did well both as a batter and as a bowler. He was economical as a bowler and seemed to be the one to threaten the Indian batters the most. As a batter, he played an exceptional knock apart from being handy in 3 other instances.
Jansen scored 102 runs in 4 innings at a batting average of 34.00, at a stunning batting SR of 217.02. As a bowler, he claimed 3 wickets in 4 innings at a bowling average of 39.67 and a very good economy rate of 7.44. He additionally claimed 4 catches. He was unlucky to be in the losing spectrum.
