Top 3 performances by Steve Smith in Test Cricket

Australian batter Steve Smith has been one of the top batters in international cricket and enjoyed a great run with the bat in the last few years. Interestingly, he made his debut in 2010 as a leg-spinner but as the years went by his batting became his main forte and he soon became a prolific run scorer.
Steve Smith made his Test debut nearly 14 years ago against Pakistan at Lords. With the bat, he scored a total of 13 runs and didn’t get a chance to bowl in the first innings. in the 2nd dig, Smith got 3 wickets for 51 which included Imran Farhat, Kamran Akmal, and Umar Gul.
Till now Smith has played 109 Test matches and has started opening the innings after the retirement of David Warner. In his nearly 14-year-long career, the Aussie batting star has scored 9685 runs with an average of just under 57 and has hit 32 centuries and 41 fifties which also includes 4 double centuries.
Here are the top 3 performances by Steve Smith in Test cricket

1. 211 vs England –Old Trafford 2019

This was the first ever Test series that Steve Smith was playing after he served out his one-year ban due to the Sand-Paper Saga. After scoring 2 tons in the same game in Birmingham in the first Test, Steve Smith was felled by a Jofra Archer bouncer in the 2nd Test at Lords. After missing the third game, Steve Smith came out all guns blazing and scored a memorable 211 runs off 319 balls with 24 fours and 2 sixes to help Australia score 497. Smith continued his fine form in the second innings as he hit 82 runs from 92 balls and helped Australia win by 185 runs.

2. 200* vs West Indies – Perth

Steve Smith and his love affair with the Perth Stadium is very well known. Australia had welcomed the West Indians for a short series at home where Steve Smith decided to put the visitors to the sword. The first Test in Perth saw Australia score a massive 598 in their first innings with Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith scoring double tons and adding 251 runs for the 3rd wicket. The Aussie batting star was not out on 200 which came off 311 balls with 17 hits to the fence as the home team won the match by 164 runs.

3. 109 vs India – Pune 2017

Perhaps the best-ever knock by Steve Smith in Test cricket came in perhaps one of the most difficult pitches of all time. Australia began their Indian tour in 2017 with the first Test being played in Pune. In the first innings, Smith could score only 27 runs as Australia were all out for 260. India batted poorly to end up with a score of 105 which gave Australia a huge lead of 155 runs. In the 2nd innings, Smith batted with control to score an impressive 109 runs from 202 balls which helped Australia reach 285 and later win the game by 333 runs with Steven O Keefe taking 6/35 in each innings.
