From 1975 to 2019, the 12 editions of the Men’s ODI World Cup have been played. The 13th edition is in progress and has been making a lot of records. Meanwhile, in the first 12 editions, a lot of records have been made. In this listicle, we will discuss most hundreds scored in an ODI World Cup.
Three most centuries scored in an ODI World Cup:
1. Rohit Sharma
The current India skipper had a dream World Cup four years back when he was the vice-captain of the team. In the nine games he played, the right-hander hit five hundreds, playing the second ODI WC of his career. However, despite getting 648 runs in the tournament, the team failed to play the final.
Apparently, alongside him, the top and the middle order failed in a small run chase against New Zealand in the semis. This led to the Blackcaps playing their second consecutive World Cup final, losing to England.
2. Kumar Sangakkara
The former Sri Lanka skipper had announced his retirement from ODI cricket ahead of the 2015 edition. A year ago, after winning the T20 World Cup, the left-hander let go of his T20I career. Meanwhile, in his last ODI WC, he made it memorable for his fans and himself with four back-to-back hundreds and 541 runs in seven games
Alas, the Lankan Lions lost their quarterfinal game against South Africa, the Proteas’ first-ever knockout win in ODI WCs. This was the last game for his team in ODIs.
3. Mark Waugh
Younger brother of one of the most successful Australia captains and a World Cup winner Steve Waugh, Mark had a great tournament with the bat in 1996 with three hundreds in seven games. Notably, Arjuna Ranatunga’s Sri Lanka snatched the World Cup from the Aussie hands and they had to wait for another three years to win their second, having won their maiden title in 1987
