In the era of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, he did not get the limelight he needed but he is one of India’s finest batters of all time. He was the classiest batter for India. 3. 178 vs Australia in Sydney in 2004

India were touring after defending the Border Gavaskar Trophy in the year 2000-2001. After winning it at home they were visiting the Aussies. The 4th Test match in Sydney might have been remembered by Sachin Tendulkar’s 241 runs and Laxman’s innings was equally important but it got overshadowed. 

But India lost quick wickets and were 194/3 when the batter came out and gave a brilliant support to Tendulkar he scored a 178 runs innings in 298 deliveries smashing 30 fours and India posted a total of 705/7d. 

2. 200* vs Australia in Delhi in 2008

India were again playing the mighty Aussies, in Delhi. Laxman scored a double hundred along with Gautam Gambhir. He played an important knock and was unbeaten when India declared on 613/7. VVS has been one of the most successful batters when it comes to bats against Australia. He smacked 21 fours in his 200 run 

innings. 

1. 281 vs Australia in Kolkata in 2001

The world and cricketing fraternity will never forget this innings at the iconic Eden Gardens. Australians enforced the follow-on after a comfortable lead of 274 runs. India were struggling at 115/3. He paired up now India’s head coach Rahul Dravid and put up 376 runs and the Men in Blue scored 600 runs.

He played a knock of 281 runs when India were struggling against the best Australian side. He and Dravid did not give away their wicket and batted the whole 4th day and Harbhajan Singh created history in Kolkata as he became the first Indian to pick a hattrick in Test match cricket and India won the match.
