Top 3 India bowlers with best economy rate in ODI World Cup

The 13th edition of the ODI World Cup is less than a day away at the time of writing. Talking about India, they won the tournament in 1983 and 2011. Their first win was a clutch as they beat the mighty and defending champions at the time, West Indies. Ahead of the tournament, calling India a favorite to win the title was considered a joke.

Meanwhile, they managed to do it and made history. For their second title, they had to wait for 28 years, having faced heartaches in between this journey. Apart from winning two titles, they reached the semis in 1987, 1996, 2015, and 2019 and played another final in 2003. In this listicle, we will have a look at three bowlers with best economy rates during ODI World Cups (minimum 10 games)

Three Indian bowlers with best economy rates:

1. Madan Lal

The former India all-rounder was part of the 1983 World Cup winning side. He took an-important wicket of Vivian Richards during the final, albeit Kapil Dev taking a good catch running towards the boundary. Meanwhile, he played 11 games in his World Cup career and had an economy rate of 3.66, the best among the Indian bowlers of all time

2. Virender Sehwag

The former India opening batter was part of the World Cup winning side 12 years back. He played three World Cups (2003, 2007, and 2011). In the 2003 WC, the team reached the final. Four years later, an unthinkable loss against Bangladesh ensured they returned home after the first round.

Meanwhile, Sehwag, who was groomed as a part-time bowling option during Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy, played 22 games and had an economy rate of 3.75, probably the highest among the part-timers.

3. Kapil Dev

The 1983 World Cup winning captain played three World Cups (1983, 1987, and 1992). While the team failed to defend their title in 87, their campaign five years later was nothing but a horror show. Meanwhile, during his WC career, he played 26 games and had an economy rate of 3.76, which is great, considering Dev had a battle with the likes of Imran Khan, Ian Botham, and Richard Hadlee about who is the best pace-bowling all-rounder
