Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya remains one of the most feared openers in the history of world cricket. The dangerous Sri Lankan opener went about batting the IPL way right from the 90s, the era when people still didn’t consider T20 as ‘real cricket.’

The left-handed batter erupted in the debut season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Playing against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai were required to chase a target of 158 runs. Jayasurya made the descent target seem a cakewalk as he thrashed Chennai bowlers all over the park to score 114 runs in just 48 balls while hitting 9 boundaries and 11 sixes. 102 of Jayasuriya’s 114 runs came just off boundaries as Mumbai chased down 158 runs in their 14th over.
