Top 3 highest opening partnerships by Australia in T20I cricket

Because of its short duration, T20 International is one of the most popular international cricket formats. Due to this aspect of the game, the fans are thrilled and show up in large numbers to watch and support their preferred team and players. 

With cricket lovers, the sport has been successful in growing popularity. Every nation that plays in Test cricket has a domestic cup tournament, and the majority of international visits include at least one Twenty20 match. But whenever one talks about Australian cricket then, it is evident that the team has not yet cracked the code of the shortest format of the game as the team has only been able to win the title just once in 2021. 

Let us now look at some of the top partnerships for the Australian team when it comes to T20 international cricket:

1. 223 – Aaron Finch and D’Arcy Short vs ZIM at Harare in 2018

It was on the Australian tour of Zimbabwe when the duo of skipper Aaron Finch, and D’Arcy Short, went on to register the highest partnership for the Australian team in T20 cricket. Both Finch and Short were aggressive right from the first ball and it was because of their partnership that the Australian team posted a total of 229 runs in the allocated 20 overs.

Both these batters stitched together a partnership of 223 runs in just 116 deliveries they faced, with Finch being the aggressor as the skipper went on to score 172 runs out of 223 runs scored between them.

2. 134* – Aaron Finch and David Warner vs SL at Colombo in 2022

After winning the T20 World Cup in 2021, the Defending T20 World Cup champions Australia traveled to Sri Lanka for a T20 series. In the first T20 match, the Australian team showed their dominance, when they won the match by 10 wickets. 

Sri Lanka batted first and registered a total of 128 runs in their allocated 20 overs. In response, Australia’s opening combination of David Warner and skipper Aaron Finch scored yet another century stand on their way to an unbroken partnership of 134* runs, helping Australia win the chase in 19 overs with both batters reaching their respective fifty-run marks.

3. 133 – David Warner and Shane Watson vs IND at Colombo in 2012

In the 2012 edition of the World Cup, Australia defeated India in an emphatic manner when the likes of David Warner as well Shane Watson stitched together a partnership for 133 runs in 81 deliveries. 

The Australians, who were chasing 141, finished the task with 31 balls remaining. From 42 deliveries, Watson had made 72 runs, including two fours and seven sixes.
