Top 3 highest individual scores by India players on T20I debut

India made their T20I debut in December 2006, months before becoming a World champion in the inaugural World Cup. All of the players from that game have now retired and now have other cricket-related jobs such as broadcasting, coaching, etc. Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will discuss the top highest individual scores on debut

Three highest individual scores in T20I debut for India

1. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane

The right-hander was brought in as injury cover to Virender Sehwag as the latter got injured and was ruled out of the white-ball series in England in 2011. The two-time World Cup winner played two Tests for the Asian side in the series. Meanwhile, Rahane made his debut in a one-off T20I game alongside current India head coach Rahul Dravid.

The latter retired from the format after the game. Meanwhile, Rahane scored 61 off 39 balls including eight fours. Notably, the Men In Blue lost the game just like every other game in what was a ‘Tour of Hell’ from the Men In Blue. Fans might remember his IPL 2011 form in which he scored decently throughout the season.

2. Ishan Kishan

The wicketkeeper-batter made his debut more than two years back when KL Rahul was struggling with the bat in the five-match T20I series against England in 2021. Kishan opened the batting with Rahul in that game and Rohit Sharma was rested. Meanwhile, batting first, the Three Lions amassed 164/6 in the first innings.

Kishan scored 56 off 32 balls including five fours and four sixes. This helped the team control the chase and win it by seven wickets and 2.1 overs to spare.

3. Murali Vijay

The former Test opening batter made his T20I debut in the T20 World Cup 2010. For the second T20I World Cup in a row, Virender Sehwag was missing the tournament due to injury. Meanwhile, Vijay made his debut against Afghanistan, who were playing the tournament for the first time.

Batting first, the T20 World Cup debutants could only manage 115/8 with Ashish Nehra taking three wickets in the game. In reply, the 2007 winners chased down the target easily with 5.1 overs to spare. Vijay, who was making his debut, scored 48 off 43 balls. He had a good season for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2010.
