The Australian team batted first but they could not get off to a good start as they lost David Warner very early. 

Aaron Finch captained the ship through troublesome waters and stabilized the innings with Shaun Marsh. After Marsh departed, Shane Watson assisted Finch in taking on the English bowlers. Australia scored 248 runs in the first innings and won the match in the end by 39 runs.
