Top 3 bowling spells of Mitchell Starc in Tests

Top 3 bowling spells of Mitchell Starc in Tests

Mitchell Starc is one of the most threatening fast bowlers in international cricket currently. He has been a shining star of the Australian bowling attack in all formats of the game. However, in this article, we will focus on the exceptional performances in Test cricket that he has delivered over the years.

1. 6/50 vs Sri Lanka, 2016

Conditions in the subcontinent are generally considered to be favourable for the spinners without much purchase for the fast bowlers. However, Mitchell Starc delivered his best bowling performance in Test cricket in these conditions only, in Sri Lanka.

In the second Test of the 2016 series between Australia and Sri Lanka at Galle, Starc decimated the Sri Lankan batting unit in the second innings by getting rid of six opposition batters. Australia lost this match by a huge margin but Mitchell Starc’s phenomenal bowling effort was a highlight for them.

2. 6/66 vs Pakistan, 2019

Another notable bowling spell against an Asian opposition but this time in home conditions at Adelaide. Pakistan toured Australia in 2019 for a Test series but they could not get much success.

In the second Test, the visitors had to face the wrath of Mitchell Starc who outshined every other Australian bowler to get 6 wickets in the first innings. His bowling heroics helped Australia impose a follow-on and eventually clinch the match in a comprehensive fashion.

3. 6/111 vs England, 2015

For any Australian player performing in the Ashes holds special significance. This bowling spell will always be one to cherish for Mitchell Starc as he delivered this against the Ashes rivals, England, at their home. In the 2015 Ashes series, Australia fought hard and gave the home side a run for their money.

The 4th Test at Nottingham was a must-win for Australia because the visitors were trailing in the series. The Kangaroos had a disappointing show with the bat in the first innings but Mitchell Starc tried to neutralize the advantage that England had gained. He picked up 6 wickets but unfortunately, it was not enough to stop England from winning the series.
