Vernon Philander is a powerful all rounder who has had stunning success in his first five months in Test cricket, reaching 50 wickets in only seven matches, the second-fastest ever in Test history. In a country that is known to produce lethal fast bowlers, Philander was a medium pacer but had great control over his deliveries as he could move the ball in both directions. In his ODI debut match against Ireland, Philander registered a figure of 4/12 at Belfast in the year 2007.
