It’s undeniable that some of India’s premier bowlers have made a big impression and performed at the peak of their game in their Test debuts. A few bowlers have excelled at their sport in addition to delivering some amazing spells that have assisted their side. On the same note, we will look at the top 3 bowling figures by Indian players in their debut match.

1. 16/136 vs West Indies – Narendra Hirwani at Chennai in 1988

Indian star bowler Narendra Hirwani has the most impressive match bowling figures by a Test debutant. The great bowler grabbed 16 wickets against the West Indies while conceding 136 runs. Notably, on January 15, 1988, he appeared in his debut match. The bowling numbers for the first innings were 8-61, whereas the second innings witnessed him secure another 8 wickets for an innings score of 8-75. In addition, during that match, Team India posted a score of 382 runs before getting all out. While chasing, the visitors could only manage to score 184 runs in the first inning. Following that, India declared their second innings on 217 runs, while the Windies again got all out on 160 runs, giving a massive victory to the Indian team.

2. 9/ 118 vs West Indies- Mohammed Shami at Eden Gardens in 2013

Mohammed Shami earned his debut for the Test team during a match that is remembered as Sachin Tendulkar’s second-to-last match. He was simply going about doing his job when the world was busy admiring Tendulkar. The star pacer produced an incredible reverse swing to bring up 5/47 in the second innings of his debut Test, shortly after destroying four players in the opening session. During that Test match, the West Indies invited the hosts to field first. After opting to bat, they only managed to score 234 runs before getting bowled out. Later, while chasing, the home team posted a massive score of 453 runs in the first inning. Following that, during the second innings, they again got all out for just 160 runs, giving India a great win after concluding the Test match in just three days.

3. 9/128 vs West Indies – Ravichandran Ashwin at Delhi 2011

It’s undeniable that India’s finest off-break spinner at the moment, with decent batting capabilities, is none other than Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin’s talent was apparent from the first Test he played against the West Indies. Notably, the star bowler made his Test debut appearance on November 6, 2011, against the West Indies at Delhi. Notably, on that day, India had a poor start, as they were only able to rack up a score of just 209 in the first innings while the visitors scored 304 runs during that. Following that, India put up 276 runs in the respective innings, while the tough visitors were bundled out for just 180 runs, giving India a great lead in the first Test. The great spinner had scalped 4 and 5 wickets in their respective innings, for which he was later given the Player of the Match award.
