Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) quest for a second Indian Premier League (IPL) title is progressing in the right direction. The 2016 Champions have failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last three seasons, but this time they put up a dominant show and finished second in the points table.
Led by the flamboyant openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, SRH’s main strength has been their batting. From posting the highest-ever score in IPL history of 287 to chasing down a target of 166 in just 9.4 overs, SRH showcased what the approach in T20s will be for years to come. As Pat Cummins and Co. prepare for the first qualifier against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), let’s take a look at their top performers in the group stage.
Here are the Top 3 Performers for SRH in the Group Stage of IPL 2024:
3. Nitish Kumar Reddy
Playing his first IPL season, Nitish Kumar Reddy of Andra Pradesh managed to grab the attention of the cricket fraternity. The 20-year-old all-rounder showed off his potential with some match-winning performances in the league stages of the tournament.
Reddy has scored 276 runs at an average of 46 and a healthy strike rate of 151.64. He also has two half-centuries to his credit, both of which proved crucial to SRH’s success. Talking about his bowling, the right-arm medium pacer had only limited opportunities to bowl but managed to pick up three wickets.
2. Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma has had great seasons with SRH in the past but the 2024 edition has been a breakthrough season for the youngster. The southpaw, along with Travis Head, is giving the team a powerful start for the team. He stays at the crease for a limited amount of time, but that’s long enough for him to do maximum damage.
The 23-year-old has amassed 467 runs in 13 matches at an average of 38.92 and a staggering strike rate of 209.42. Notably, Abhishek leads the list of most sixes this season – 41 sixes, breaking Virat Kohli’s record for most sixes by an Indian batter (38) in an IPL edition.
1. Travis Head
Travis Head was expected to perform the way he has performed so far. Get him out in the initial overs or he’s going to take the game away from you in no time. Known for his devastating batting, the Australian opener has accumulated 533 runs at an average of 48.45 and a whopping strike rate of 201.13.
The left-hander has also hit the fourth-fastest century in the history of the tournament – achieved in just 39 balls against RCB. Head is a big match player and SRH will be hoping he unleashes his beast in the upcoming knockout matches.
