Top 3 best performers for RCB in the group stage of IPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have recorded one of the greatest comebacks in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. They were on the brink of elimination, but an incredible redemption saw them win six straight games and march into the playoffs. Their quest for a maiden IPL trophy is on the right track and they need just three wins (Including the Eliminator clash against Rajasthan Royals) to secure it.

Yes, there was some individual brilliance behind this epic turnaround by RCB, but it was a collective team effort and unity that helped RCB finish their league phase in fourth place. As the tournament progressed, their bowlers, who were always focused on criticism, found their best form. Their batting department also does not solely rely on just one or two players. However, let’s look at three RCB players who stood out in the league phase.

Here are the top 3 best performers for RCB in the group stage of IPL 2024

3. Yash Dayal

Yash Dayal

Just like RCB’s redemption story, Yash Dayal’s redemption deserves much praise. When Rinku Singh hit him for five consecutive sixes in KKR vs GT last year, many judged his career to be over. The RCB management has come under fire for picking him up at the auction.

But the left-arm pacer shut down all the critics and paid back the franchise with his brilliant performances. Dayal has taken 15 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 8.94. He was a key factor in RCB reaching the playoffs. Needing 17 runs off the final over for CSK to qualify, Dayal conceded just seven runs, including a wicket, to seal RCB’s berth in the knockouts.

2. Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar had a slow start to his campaign, but he managed to pick up the pace quickly and never looked back. The right-hander rose to the occasion and gifted RCB several wins with his smashing knocks in the middle overs. He is RCB’s main weapon against the spin attack, which does not allow the opponents to gain an advantage in the middle stages of the game.

Batting at No. 4, the 30-year-old has amassed 361 runs from 12 innings at an average of 54 and an incredible strike rate of 159, including five half-centuries. He has a staggering strike rate of 210.86 against spinners this season, which he has achieved with the help of 21 sixes.

1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is the backbone of the team. The former RCB captain is the leading run-scorer in the series with 708 runs at an average of 64.36 and a healthy strike rate of 155.60. He also has five half-centuries and a century to his credit. Kohli, who makes a blazing start in the powerplay, has hit the second-most sixes so far this season – 37 sixes.

Apart from his batting prowess, the 35-year-old is also a gun fielder and a real inspiration for the team to boost their fighting spirit. Kohli’s form in the playoffs will be a key factor in ending RCB’s title drought.
