Joe Root has made his stature as one of the best batters in modern cricket mostly based on his batting performances in test and ODI cricket. The former English test captain has not found much success in T20I cricket but he has played some notable innings and, in this article, we will highlight some of them.

Joe Root’s best performance in T20I cricket came against arch-rivals Australia in 2013. The Kangaroos had posted a massive 249 runs courtesy of a historic ton from Aaron Finch. It was a tough ask for English batters to chase such a humongous target and the run chase became more arduous when England lost 4 wickets in the powerplay with just 37 runs on the board. But Joe Root did not lose the will to fight till the end and put in everything to keep England in the contest. He made a few partnerships in the middle order but could not take his team beyond the final hurdle.

Joe Root played this knock in a group-stage match against South Africa at the 2016 T20 World Cup. It was a historic run chase as the English team chased 230 runs in a crucial match against a challenging opponent. After an explosive start in the powerplay England a few wickets in quick succession which created pressure as the target was huge. Joe Root came to the rescue with an exceptional batting performance and won the match for his team with a solo effort. 

#3. 68 vs New Zealand, 2015

This is another batting effort from Joe Root that came in a winning cause for his team. Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to put runs on the board for the Kiwis to chase in the second innings. Jason Roy was dismissed early by New Zealand but Joe Root prevented England from further setbacks as he built a strong partnership with Alex Hales. He batted till the 17th over and ensured that England posted a challenging target for New Zealand. Eventually, England won the match by 56 runs and Root was adjudged the player of the match.
