South Australia-based Nathan McSweeney has been in terrific form with the bat during the recent Sheffield Shield season. The right-handed batter has played two games this season and scored 291 runs with an average of 91 along with 1 century and two fifties. 

So far Nathan McSweeney has played a total of 34 games in First Class cricket. The 26-year-old has scored 2252 runs with an average of 38 with 6 centuries and 12 fifties. McSweeney has beaten off the competition from Sam Konstas, Marcus Harris, and Cameron Bancroft to make his Test debut against India in Perth on 22nd November.

Nathan McSweeney was named the captain of the Australia A side for the two-match series against India A. MacKay was the venue of the first game which saw the home team win with ease. India A batted first and were bowled out for a mere 107 on the board. Brendan Doggett picked 6 wickets as the home team replied with 195 with an overall lead of 88. 

Mukesh Kumar bowled well to pick 6/46 for India A before a century by Sai Sudharsan and 88 by Devdutt Padikkal helped the visitors reach 312. Needing 225 to win, Australia were reduced to 85/3 with the Indian bowlers staging a comeback. Nathan McSweeney came to his team’s rescue with 88 not out from 178 balls to take his side to an easy 7-wicket win.

In the tense Sheffield Shield game between South Australia and Queensland, it was the former who came out trumps. The winning margin of 3 runs meant that South Australia and Queensland had played an epic game. South Australia batted first and scored 359/5 before declaring their innings. 

Nathan McSweeney batted 253 balls to score 112 not out with 13 fours and a six. Queensland replied with 238 as Nathan McAndrew picked 6 wickets. In the 2nd innings, McSweeney scored 13 with his side getting bowled out for 151 to set Queensland a target of 273. Skipper Usman Khawaja’s 114 went in vain as his side were all out for 269 to lose a heartbreaking game.

Nathan McSweeney’s best performance came in the high-scoring drawn game against New South Wales. Sam Konstas who was also in the race to become the Australian opener scored centuries in both innings. Nathan McSweeney now the captain of South Australia scored 55 in the first innings. 

In the 2nd essay, the right-handed batter scored 127 not out from 283 balls with 8 fours and batted for 300 minutes. McSweeney also added 182 runs for the 5th wicket with Alex Carey to nearly pull off an amazing win for his team.
