Top 3 batting performances of Jos Buttler in ODIs

England’s limited overs captain Jos Buttler is celebrating his 34th birthday on September 8. He is a vital asset to the English team in all three formats, but his hard-hitting prowess is more suited to white-ball cricket. Notably, he was part of the England team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup and captained the side that won the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.

Buttler, who made his ODI debut in February 2012, has so far played 181 matches in this particular format. The keeper-batsman has scored 5022 runs at an average of 39.54 and a strike rate of 117.09. He also has 11 centuries and 26 fifties to his credit. As the English superstar celebrates his special day, let’s take a look at his best performances in the 50-over format.

Here are Jos Buttler’s top 3 batting performances in ODIs

3. 110*(122) vs Australia, Manchester, 2018

vs Australia Manchester 2018

Jos Buttler’s belligerent ton helped England clinch a thrilling win in the fifth ODI and whitewash the five-match series against Australia. On a good bowling surface, Australia, who opted to bat first, were bowled out for just 205 runs. England suffered a similar fate with their top and middle order collapsing. While none of his teammates managed to touch the 25-run mark, Buttler scored 110 runs off 122 balls and led his side to a one-wicket win with nine balls remaining.

2. 121(74) vs Sri Lanka, Lord’s, 2014

vs Sri Lanka Lords 2014

Invited to bat first in the fourth ODI of the Sri Lanka tour of England and Ireland, the visitors post 300/9 on the back of Kumar Sangakkara’s brilliant hundred. England got off to a disastrous start as they lost captain Alastair Cook and Ian Bell early on. Gary Ballance and Joe Root steadied the ship for a while, but they needed an outstanding show from Buttler to get over the line. Batting at No. 7, the right-hander slammed 121 off 74 and steered them to a seven-run victory.

1. 150(77) vs West Indies, St. George’s, 2019

vs West Indies St Georges 2019

Buttler registered his highest ODI score during the fourth ODI against West Indies in the 2019 series. Batting first, England accumulated a record 418 runs, courtesy of Buttler’s 150 off 77 balls and captain Eoin Morgan’s 103 off 88 balls. The keeper-batter struck 13 fours and 12 sixes. In reply, Chris Gayle led the charge for the hosts with a scintillating 162, but they could only manage 389.
