Top 3 batting performances of Jesse Ryder in Tests

The New Zealand side is known to have some great players in the setup who have given great performances. However, there have been some talented players who have not been able to reach heights in their careers even if they had shown some great performances in their careers. One of the players who makes this category is Kiwi middle-order batter Jesse Ryder who was one of the most backed talents in New Zealand cricket.

Jesse Ryder was known to be one of those batters with an aggressive mindset who could take the game away from you. He could even bowl some handy medium-pace spells as well. Even though Ryder could not have a long career due to his attitude and fitness issues, there were still some great performances from him during his career. There is no doubt he was great in white ball cricket, but he also had an impressive short stint in Test matches as well where he has scored 1269 runs in 18 Tests at an average of above 40. We will be looking into some of these great performances as well.

So, here are the Top 3 best performances from Jesse Ryder in Test matches:

Though the Kiwis were playing at home they were still against a really strong Indian side under MS Dhoni. The Kiwi batting lineup struggled against the Indian bowling attack in the first innings, where the black caps were struggling at 60-6. This is where Ryder formed an impressive partnership with Daniel Vettori to make sure his team got to a much more competitive total. Ryder went on to score 102 from 162 deliveries. Though in the end the team ended up on the losing side due to the great innings from the Indian batters, the innings from Ryder solidified him as a reliable middle-order batter.

Playing against India in India is always going to be tough for any side in cricket and it was made clear as India went on to put up a huge total in the first innings as well. However, New Zealand still gave the Indians a fight with a brilliant partnership between Kane Williamson and Jesse Ryder, which made sure the Indians did not get a massive lead in the game. Ryder once again scored an important century as he ended up scoring 103 from 225 deliveries. This was another important inning that was enough to draw the Test match in the end.
