Former South African skipper Faf Du Plessis was the cornerstone and strength of his country for nearly a decade. It has been nearly four years since the right-handed batter retired but he still is showing his wares in various T20 leagues around the world.

Faf Du Plessis made his ODI debut at the age of 26 during the ODI series versus India. In his very first match, he scored 60 and was caught by future RCB teammate Virat Kohli. His last match for the Proteas came during the 2019 ODI World Cup where he played against Australia and scored a century in a close 10-run win over.

It was during the Tri-Series between South Africa, Australia, and Zimbabwe that Faf Du Plessis showed his run-scoring form. In 2nd match of the series chasing a huge 328 run score, Faf Du Plessis hit 106 off 98 balls with 11 fours and a six as best friend AB De Villiers hit 136 off 106 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. The pair added 206 runs for the third wicket as South Africa won by 7 wickets with 20 balls to spare.

2- 133 vs India – Mumbai -2015

The final match of the five-game ODI series saw both teams locked at 2-2. South Africa batted first and Quinton De Kock scored a breezy ton with Dean Elgar falling early. Faf Du Plessis then took the attack to the opposition as he scored his then career-best 133 off 115 balls with 9 fours and six huge sixes before he had to retire hurt due to cramps. AB De Villiers put the icing on the cake as he scored 119 off 61 balls. India was all out for 224 despite fifties by Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan to lose by 194 runs.

South Africa’s batting first posted a mammoth score of 367 thanks to Faf Du Plessis who scored 185 off 141 balls with 16 fours and 3 sixes. The right-handed batter punished all the Sri Lankan bowlers as he found good support from Quinton De Kock and AB De Villiers with the pair scoring half-centuries. Sri Lanka lost by 40 runs despite Upul Tharanga scoring a ton.
