Among Australia’s best captains is Ian Chappell. He was a legendary player in Test cricket during the 1960s and 1970s, scoring a huge deal of runs. Many Australian batters of later generations looked up to the previous batter as a hero and source of inspiration. Thirty times as Australia’s captain, he won fifteen and lost just five. In 1975, he had an incredible series in England, scoring 429 runs at a batting average of 71.50.

Australia responded by scoring a massive 585 in the first innings. Rod Marsh, the wicketkeeper, and Ian Chappell both scored hundreds. With 21 fours and 4 sixes in 243 balls. Pakistan was only able to score 214 runs, which was insufficient to overcome Australia by an innings and 114 runs. 

2. 192 vs England

Ian Chapell had his second-best innings in the 1975 Ashes series against his toughest opponents, England. Australia took full advantage of the batting conditions as they batted first in this test match. Ian Chappell and Rick McCosker each earned 100, giving them a total score of 532/9. While Chappell scored 192 runs off 367 balls, the former scored 127 runs off 294 balls at a 52.32 strike rate with 17 fours. With almost 500 runs scored in each of their two innings, Australia tied the test match.

3. 165 vs West Indies

He brilliantly made 165 runs against the strong West Indies in the 1968 match. In this test match, the West Indies were bowled out for 200 runs while batting first. Chappell, who batted in third position, scored 165 runs off 310 balls with a 51.56 strike rate and 16 fours. Australia scored a huge total of 510 runs as Bill Lawry double hundred. While West Indies was bowled out for 280 runs. However, Australia won the match by an innings and 30 runs.
