Top 3 Australia bowlers with best economy rate in ODI World Cup

The mega event, the ODI World Cup 2023, will be hosted by India. All of the team captains are prepared for the “Captain’s Corner” event on Wednesday, October 5, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India is the second nation after the World Cup to host the marquee event as a single host. India had their last World Cup in 2011 when they co-hosted along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Since 2013 India have not won the major trophy.

When it comes to the World Cup, Australia is one of the toughest teams to beat. However, they performed for the whole year before the World Cup and they got back in form. That is the reason they have won cricket’s most prestigious event five times. They recently played a three-match ODI series. The Kangaroos though lost against India but with the experience in the squad and playing in India they will definitely be the favourites to win the marquee event.

Here are the top 3 Australia bowlers with best economy rate in ODI World Cup:

3. Glenn McGrath3.96

Glenn McGrath

Glenn McGrath has an exceptional record at the Men’s Cricket World Cup. He is one of the players to lift the most prestigious trophy thrice. McGrath took more wickets than anyone else in the history of the tournament and has the best figures in its history. For the Kangaroos he had a huge impact at the Cricket World Cup.

In his debut at the tournament in 1996, and his final appearance in 2007, McGrath claimed 71 wickets in 39 games which is three times more than his rival Muttiah Muralitharan. In the 2003 edition, he picked up 21 wickets and in 2007 with a best of 26 wickets. He has an economy of 3.96 in the three World Cups he played.

2. Shane Warne3.83

Shane Warne

Shane Warne the former Australian leg-spinner is one of the finest of his generation. Every fan has respected the former leggie. He made his debut for Australia in 1992 and picked up over 1000 wickets in international cricket. He has a Test hat-trick, a Man-of-the-Match award in a World Cup final, he was the first cricketer to reach 700 Test wickets.

In 1999 Warne probably bowled his dream spell. He made the Pakistani batters caught in a web with his spin. He finished the day with 4/33 in 9 overs. In the ODI format, Warne bagged 293 wickets in 194 matches at an average of 25.73 and an economy of 4.25. He has an economy of 3.83 in the World Cup.

1. Nathan Bracken3.60

Nathan Bracken

Nathan Bracken is one of the most underrated bowlers. He did not get the limelight because of the star-studded Australian pace attack with Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie. Bracken has taken 186 wickets for Australia in 121 matches in an international career that spanned nine years. In the 2003 World Cup winning squad he was present but did not get a single game in the marquee event.

He was forced to retire in 2011 with a chronic right knee injury that has left him with permanent disabilities. In 2008, he was ranked the world’s No.1, one-day international bowler. He went on to play 116 times for his country before the knee injury.
