Tim Southee’s top 3 performances in Test Cricket

The experienced fast bowler Tim Southee has been one of the longest-serving players in the history of New Zealand cricket. He has been one of the most important players for New Zealand in all formats of the game, but his contributions in the red ball format have proved to be most vital for his side. In this article, we will take a look at Tim Southee’s top 3 performances in Test cricket.

1. 7/64 vs India, 2012

Tim Southee’s best performance in Test cricket came against India in subcontinent conditions. Subcontinental conditions are not conducive for fast bowlers, especially in Test cricket, but a career-best performance by a Kiwi fast bowler in Indian conditions tells a lot about that player. He picked up 7 wickets in the first innings of the second test at Bengaluru and helped New Zealand earn the lead in the first innings. The Kiwis could not win this match but Southee’s spectacular bowling performance gave the Kiwis a chance to fight for the result.

2. 6/43 vs England, 2021

A phenomenal spell at Lord’s, the home of cricket, where Southee delivered this spell a couple of years back when the Kiwis toured England for the Test series. Southee showed his class in the very first match of the Test match to trouble the English batters. Courtesy of his bowling performance New Zealand got a big lead at the end of first innings. The match ended in a draw and Southee’s role was crucial in getting this result.

3. 6/50 vs England, 2013

Another magnificent bowling performance at Lord’s against the same opposition, England. In the first Test match of the test series, England thumped the Kiwis to get an easy victory but Southee’s performance was a saving grace for New Zealand. England was bowled out for 213 runs in the second innings, and Southee’s test spell was a major reason behind the pathetic show with the bat. This remains one of the best bowling performances from a Kiwi bowler in English conditions.
