Sri Lanka will face Nepal in their third game of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match is set to take place in Florida and it is a crucial match for the former T20 World Cup winners. The Sri Lankans have played two matches so far this tournament and have lost on both occasions.
In the very first match of the campaign, Sri Lanka were bowled out for a mere 77 to lose to South Africa. The bouncy nature of the wicket in New York meant that Anrich Nortje and the rest of the South African bowlers enjoyed their day out with the bat against the hapless Sri Lankans.
The second loss of the tournament was against Bangladesh as Sri Lanka nearly won the game from a losing position. One bad captaincy call by Wanindu Hasaranga though saw the game turn and lose by a close margin. The Islanders now face Nepal and they have to win the match to keep themselves in the race for the Super 8 matches.
Here are the three Sri Lankan players to watch out for during the T20 World Cup clash against Nepal.
3. Matheesha Pathirana
One of the fastest bowlers in the world and one of the best young talents with the ball, Matheesha Pathirana has been at his solid best so far. In the game against Bangladesh, Pathirana picked 1/27 from his 4 overs which also included the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan. His pace and ability to bowl Yorkers make him one of the players to watch for against Nepal in their T20 World Cup clash.
2. Pathum Nissanka
Sri Lankan opening batter Pathum Nissanka was the top scorer for his side during the loss against Bangladesh. The right-handed batter scored 47 runs from 28 balls with 7 fours and a six. Nepal bowlers will want to dismiss the young batter because of the threat he carries with the bat. Nissanka with his ability to dominate bowlers becomes a player to watch out for during the T20 World Cup clash against Nepal.
1. Nuwan Thushara
Right-arm pacer Nuwan Thushara has made a terrific comeback to form after his disastrous outing in the IPL. The 29-year-old picked 4/18 from his four overs to keep Sri Lanka’s hopes alive against Bangladesh. Nuwan Thushara with pace and swing will be a bowler to watch out for during the clash against Nepal in Florida.
