New Zealand cricket team ended their home series against Pakistan with a 3-0 ODI series versus Pakistan on Saturday. Michael Bracewell had earlier led the team to a 4-1 T20I series win despite missing a host of big names. It was a disappointing end to the tour for Pakistan who would have wanted to prove a point after exiting the Champions Trophy tournament in the first round.
In each of the three games, Pakistan failed to chase down the target in the second innings as their batting struggled to cope with the searing pace of the Kiwi bowlers. Ben Sears picked a fifer in the final game to condemn the Men in Green to a 43-run loss and complete the series whitewash.
Here are the three reasons why Pakistan lost the ODI series to New Zealand
3- Unimaginative captaincy from Mohammad Rizwan

After a good start to his captaincy career, Mohammad Rizwan has failed to rise to the occasion as the captain. The 32-year-old has failed to marshal his troops well during the recent series. Rizwan’s captaincy was called out after the below par showing during the CT2025 tournament as well. Even with the bat, Rizwan hasn’t managed to inspire much confidence amongst his teammates and lead his side with example. Some of his team selections have also raised questions in Pakistan with many former players feeling perplexed with the tactics employed.
2- Lack of support for Babar Azam

If we speak about the top three run-getters in the ODI series only Babar Azam makes the list with 129 runs from three games. Daryl Mitchell was the leading run scorer with 137 runs while Mark Chapman scored 132 in the only game he played before getting injured and being ruled out. The next best batter for Pakistan was Salman Agha who had scored 78 runs from the three games while Faheem Ashraf scored 76 runs from two games. This was yet another example of Pakistani batters failing to rise to the challenge with the bat in a key tour.
1- Pakistani bowlers failing once again

Just like the batting, even the bowling from Pakistan lacked any bite and motivation, Akif Javed had a great start to his international career as he picked seven scalps from three games. Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah picked two and three wickets respectively while spinner Sufiyan Muqeem was also expensive with the ball. The Kiwi batters made merry with the bat as they took full toll of the freebies that were on offer from the Pakistani bowlers and scored huge runs on the board.
