Three Reasons why Kuldeep Yadav could win the Player of the Series Award in the ODI series against West Indies

 Three Reasons why Kuldeep Yadav could win the Player of the Series Award in the ODI series against West Indies

India defeated the West Indies team in a comprehensive manner and went on to take a 1-0 lead against the host at Kensington Oval in Barbados. After winning the toss, the Indian team elected to bowl first on a pitch that looked decent for batting first. But the Indian bowling especially the spinners had different plans as they restricted the West Indies side to a mere total of 114 in just 23 overs.

The star with the ball was Ravindra Jadeja, as well as Kuldeep Yadav, were in a league of their own as they shared seven wickets between them and absolutely wreaked havoc on the West Indies batting lineup. Kuldeep was the most successful of Indian bowlers in the match as the left-arm chinaman registered a figure of 4/6 in the three overs that he bowled.

The 28-year-old spinner will certainly be a force to reckon with in the upcoming World Cup as well as in the ongoing series against the West Indies. His ability to spin the ball both ways certainly gives him an edge as he becomes more deceptive and deadly on pitch which offers something for the spinners.

Let us look at three reasons why Kuldeep could win the Player of the Series (POTS) award in the ODI series against West Indies;

West Indies are not used to playing quality spin

One of the prominent reasons why Kuldeep can win the POTS. Given the current West Indies squad lack quality batter who are apt with skills that are needed to counter spin is among the reason why Kuldeep will be successful in the series. Despite he was given the chance to bowl late in the West Indies innings, the star India bowler deceived the West Indian batter as they were unable to read Kuldeep and judge which way the ball will actually be spinning.

Spin friendly wicket

With the quality that the Indian bowling lineup possesses, providing spin-friendly wickets is nowhere helping the West Indies team. The quality that Kuldeep possesses can be lethal and West Indies batters will seriously find it hard to play on such pitches.

Given the scenario that the second ODI will also be played on the same ground, the chances of Kuldeep adding more wickets to his tally is quite certain.

Rohit Sharma‘s trust in Kuldeep Yadav

The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and team management have shown immense trust in the left-arm chinaman and decided to play him ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal on multiple occasions. With the continuous support that he is been receiving from the skipper, it is more likely that he will be playing all /three games and if he does so then he will certainly be picking truckloads of wickets which will make his chances of becoming POTS even more formidable.
