Three players GT can target in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.

GT impressed everyone with their performance in the league so far. Along with Lucknow SuperGiants, Gujarat Titans have been the youngest franchise in IPL 2024. Yet, they’ve achieved something many teams have not been able to in the 16 editions of the league. GT became only the second team after Rajasthan Royals (From 2008) to win the IPL in their maiden season.

GT continued their good run in their second season as well, as they became the runner-up in the season. GT nearly won the title in 2023 as well. Just for the last two balls of the game, GT did not perform well. Barring that, they were always in the game and the tournament. GT did not have a perfect squad but made the most of their resources. Ahead of the IPL 2024, they released some of their players to get better ones. 

Here are the three players GT might target in the auction.

3. Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitchell has been very good in the last 3 years as a batter. His resurgence started in Tests, where he contributed a lot to the success of NZ, particularly in the first edition of the WTC, which was won by the Kiwis. In the second edition, he became an established batter. In the T20 World Cup 2021, Mitchell played some terrific knocks. In the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, it seemed like the completion of an entire cycle for him.

Mitchell was one of the best middle-order batters in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, where he performed like a champion. In 10 innings, Mitchell scored 550 runs at an average of over 65, at a strike rate of over 110, including a couple of hundred plus scores. Mitchell scored hundreds against India twice in the tournament. GT might be looking for his aggressive prowess in the tournament.

2. Azmatullah Omarzai 

Azmatullah Omarzai was one of the rising talents of the ODI World Cup 2023. Along with Rachin Ravindra, Omarzai was the best performer in the tournament. The Afghanistan player showed his caliber as both the batter and the bowler in the tournament. He played some terrific knocks in the tournament with some useful spells with the ball. He was a total revelation for Afghanistan in the tournament.

Omarzai performed well against some of the top sides in the world like Australia, South Africa, India, and England. With the bat, Omarzai can be aggressive and anchor the innings as well. With the ball, the youngster can swing the ball into the left-handers. With the exit of Hardik Pandya, GT needs an All-rounder. Omarzai might just be the candidate for them, who might be a long-term option as well.

1. Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson is one of the quickest bowlers in the world at the moment. With pace, Lockie also has the required accuracy, which makes him one of the deadliest bowlers in the world currently. Even on spin-friendly wickets like the ones in India in the ODI World Cup 2023, Ferguson was effective. Though he blew hot and cold, Ferguson always looked like a threatening pacer, who could get the better of the batters.

Ferguson has a good yorker, which is very handy in the death overs. In the middle overs, Ferguson has a crucial role to play. In that regard, GT might need him. The Western Indian franchise has released Alzarri Joseph, who was one of the best bowlers in the season in the middle overs. To Kiwi pacer has the experience of playing for GT in the past in 2022. He might be targeted by the Gujarat-based franchise for the tenth edition.
