Thisara Perera’s top 3 performances in the IPL

Thisara Perera’s top 3 performances in the IPL

Thisara Perera is one of the best-attacking all-rounders Sri Lanka has ever produced in the white ball format. He had the best qualities that you need in T20 players as he was known to hit a long ball in the death overs using his long levers. In addition to that, he was also more than a useful medium-pace bowler who was known to hit the deck hard and take crucial wickets at important junctures of the match.

In the T20 format at the international level, he has scored 1204 runs in 74 innings at an average of 23 and a healthy strike rate of 151.64. In addition to it, he also has 51 wickets to his name. Thisara Perera’s playing style and his skills suited the needs of the IPL which is why he first caught the eye of CSK in the 2010 IPL auctions.

He then played for Gujarat Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rising Pune Super Giants, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Punjab Kings.  He featured in 37 IPL matches in his career in which he scored 422 runs and took 31 wickets. In this article, we will explore his top 3 performances from his stint in the IPL:

3) 23 off 14 balls and 24 for 1 vs KXIP- IPL 2016

Another significant performance of Thisara Perera in the IPL came against the Kings XI Punjab in the 53rd match of IPL 2016. In the match again Perera’s all-round performance was on display. While playing for the Rising Pune Super Giants, first took the wicket of Axar Patel with the ball and in the 2nd, innings played a vital cameo of 23 runs off just 14 deliveries including 2 boundaries and a towering six. RPS eventually chased the target of 173 because of the heroics of MS Dhoni who smashed Axar Patel for 5 sixes in the last over to seal the deal for RPS.

2) 40 off 24 balls and 35 for 1 vs RCB- IPL 2013

Thisara Perera played a sensational knock of 40 runs off just 24 balls against RCB while playing for the newly formed SRH in IPL 2013. Perera provided the SRH innings with the much-needed impetus in the end which took its score to 161 in 20 overs.

However, RCB chased down the target of 162 runs quite comfortably on the back of a sensational unbeaten 93-run innings by Virat Kohli but in the bowling front too Thisara chipped in with a wicket of opener Mayank Aggarwal thus proving his worth as an all-rounder.

1)34 off 13 balls and 34 for 3 vs RCB- IPL 2016

Thisara Perera’s best show in the IPL came against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2016 while playing for the Rising Pune Super Giants, where he lit up the stadium with his quick-fire 34 runs off just 13 deliveries and took 3 wickets for 34 runs in his 4 overs. However, this all-round show from Perera didn’t prove to be enough to take RPSG over the line but Perera did his best with both the bat and ball.

RPSG bowled first in the match and Perera was the shining star on the bowling front as he took the wicket of the top three batters of RCB- Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and AB de Villiers. He then blasted the RCB bowlers with 34 runs off just 13 balls with an astonishing strike rate of 261.
