Tamim Iqbal’s top 3 performances in T20I Cricket

The Bangladesh team is now regarded as a competitive team in the shortest format of the game in international cricket. Their surge has been fuelled by some experienced players who have served Bangladesh cricket for a long time. Tamim Iqbal is one of those names who have been a regular part of the team for more than a decade. He is an expressive batter who believes in putting the opposition under pressure right from the word go and it is very evident from his playing style. This template has given him success in T20I cricket. Let us take a look at some of his finest T20I knocks for Bangladesh.

1. 103* vs Oman, 2016

Tamim Iqbal scored the only century of his T20I career in the first round of the 2016 T20I World Cup. It was an important game for Bangladesh as their qualification to the next round depended on the result of this fixture. Bangladesh batted first and Tamim Iqbal exploited the conditions to decimate the opposition bowling attack with his destructive batting. He played an unbeaten knock of 103 runs off just 63 balls which pushed Bangladesh to the 180-run mark at the end of the first innings which later proved to be a winning total.

2. 88* vs West Indies, 2012

In the one-off T20I series between Bangladesh and West Indies in 2012, Tamim Iqbal played another blinder of a knock in a challenging run chase. Batting first West Indies had posted 197 runs on the board for Bangladesh to chase. It was certainly a massive target for Bangladesh but the hard-hitting left-handed opener did not give up without doing his best. Tamim ended up with 88 runs off 61 deliveries however this performance could not carry his team across the finishing line as Bangladesh lost by a narrow margin of 18 runs.

3. 83* vs Netherlands, 2016

This batting performance was also delivered in the first round of the 2016 T20 World Cup. Winning the toss, Netherlands put Bangladesh to bat first. The side batting first struggled initially as Netherlands made inroads with early breakthroughs. But even without much support from the other end Tamim Iqbal did the heavy lifting and made sure that Bangladesh went beyond the competitive 150-run mark. The left-hander stayed unbeaten till the end and added 83 runs to his account.
