T20I debut: Top 3 highest individual scores by New Zealand players

T20 cricket, also referred to as Twenty20 cricket, is a newly well-known form of one-day cricket that only consists of 20 overs of play, each of which lasts for about 80 minutes with a 30-minute break in between. This ratio is what really piques the interest of the spectators, who participate and watch it with fervor. 

New Zealand is among the powerhouses of cricket but also have not been successful in winning any ICC trophies till now despite having some of the big names for the shortest format of the game. Lets us now look at the Top 3 highest individual scores by New Zealand players on T20I debut;

1. 66 – Scott Styris vs Australia at Auckland in 2005

Scott Styris was one such player who was born in Australia but played for New Zealand and was even more accepted by the fans in New Zealand. Before being called up to the Test squad, he had played over ten years of domestic cricket and had made his one-day international debut considerably earlier. Originally a seamer, a knee injury prompted him to focus on his batting, and he transitioned from being a bowler who could bat to a batsman who occasionally bowled.

But he made his to make his mark the most in the shortest format of the game the most, when he debuted against Australia in 2005. In his debut match, he went on to score 66 runs on his debut match.

2. 63 – Aaron Redmond vs Ireland at Nottingham in 2009

Another all-rounder in the list, who could even keep wickets whenever the team needed him, Aaron Redmond was brought up in Australia before heading across the Tasman. Redmond then transformed himself from a legspinner with Canterbury to a hard-working top-order batsman for Otago.

The 47-year-old had a very short international career, it was in his debut match against the Ireland team that, Redmond scored a brilliant 63 which was eventually his highest score in the T20 circuit.

3. 62 – George Worker vs Zimbabwe at Harare in 2015

George Worker

George Worker, a left-handed batsman and left-arm spinner, first played for his country in 2015 on a tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa. It was in his debut match against Zimbabwe where Worker scored 62 runs in just 38 balls for which he was even awarded Player of the Match award.
