S Sreesanth top 3 performances in Test Cricket

In his brief international career S Sreesanth made some valuable contributions to the journey of Indian cricket. He was operating at his best when Indian cricket witnessed some of its most glorious moments. The furious fast bowler is predominantly remembered for his exploits in limited-overs cricket but in this article, we will throw some light on his Test career and the top 3 performances that he delivered for India in the whites.

5/40 vs South Africa, 2006

India toured South Africa in 2006 for a Test series and this was arguably the best cricket that Sreesanth played in his Test career. In the first Test at Johannesburg, Sreesanth troubled the South Africans with his sheer pace and ferocity. He picked up a 5-wicket haul in the first innings to wrap up the South African batting stint for a paltry total of 84 runs. This bowling performance gave India a huge lead at the end of the first innings which later became decisive as India won a historic Test match at Johannesburg.

5/75 vs Sri Lanka, 2009

Sreesanth’s next-best bowling figures came in 2009 against Sri Lanka at Kanpur. In the second Test of the series, India batted first and posted a humongous total of 642 runs on the board. The pressure was already on the opposition and Sreesanth amplified it with his bowling in the first innings. He got rid of five key Sri Lankan batters including the likes of Kumar Sangakkara and Thilan Samaraweera. India imposed a follow-on and eventually won the match by an innings and 144 runs.

5/114 vs South Africa, 2011

vs South Africa 2011

S Sreesanth once again exploited the South African conditions in 2011 to bring out his best in Test cricket. In the third and final Test of the series, it was important for India to put up a fight as the series was on the line. Sreesanth bolstered India’s chances with his extraordinary spell where he picked up 5 wickets. This bowling effort restricted South Africa to a total below 400 which gave India a chance to fight back and get a result from the Test. The match eventually ended in a draw and India managed to tie the series.
