Ross Taylor’s top 3 batting performances in ODIs

The Blackcaps have been one of the most consistent teams in the last decade or so. Even in the major tournaments, they have consistently challenged for the title. The experienced Ross Taylor has been a major factor in the resurrection of New Zealand on the international stage across formats. Moving ahead let us take a look at his top 3 batting performances in ODI cricket.

1. 181* vs England, 2018

This is without a shadow of a doubt the best ODI knock in Ross Taylor’s international career. Not just for the quantum of runs but it is memorable because of the situation that it was played in. In the fourth match of the ODI series between England and New Zealand at Dunedin, the visitors achieved a humongous total of 335 runs in the first innings. Chasing this target was a gargantuan task but Ross Taylor took the responsibility to carry his team across the finishing line. Courtesy of his unbeaten 181 runs New Zealand completed the run chase in the last over to win the match by 5 wickets.

2. 137 vs Sri Lanka, 2019

Sri Lanka toured New Zealand in 2019 in the run-up to the 2019 ODI World Cup. The last match of the 3-match ODI series between the two teams was played at Nelson. The visitors winning the toss elected to field first.

However, they could not take advantage of winning the toss as New Zealand scored 364 runs in the first innings. Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls batted brilliantly to take the team beyond the 350-run mark. The experienced batter contributed 137 runs to that total. New Zealand eventually won the match by 115 runs.

3. 131* vs Pakistan, 2011

This is one of the most destructive batting performances that Ross Taylor delivered in his ODI career. He absolutely annihilated the Pakistan bowling attack in a group-stage match in the 2011 ODI World Cup. In this innings, he particularly thrashed the veteran, Shoaib Akhtar, who was struggling in the later stages of his career.

This beating almost put an end to his international career. Ross Taylor stayed unbeaten till the end and went back with 131 runs to his name. New Zealand gave a target of 303 runs which could not be chased by Pakistan in the second innings.
