One of the greatest batters of all time, Virat Kohli, announced his retirement from T20Is right after winning the Player of the Match award in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This tournament, which saw some of the most intense cricket battles in recent history, was a significant milestone in Kohli’s career. His performance in the World Cup was not up to the mark, but he ensured he didn’t leave anything behind.
In the final game, when India were down to three wickets in 23 runs, he anchored the innings and scored 76 runs off 59 balls. While the Men in Blue were already losing the match, Kohli pulled off a 48 runs in 18 balls target, which seemed next to impossible. Along with Hardik Pandya cheering from the other end, Kohli hit two beautiful sixes off Haris Rauf, which lives rent-free in people’s lives.
2. 76 – IND vs SA, T20 World Cup, 2024
The World Cup 2024 finals knock has to be one of Kohli’s most responsible knocks. Even though he didn’t score with a strike rate of 150+, this anchoring inning was the main reason India got to a good total of 177 runs. Kohli scored 76 runs off 59 balls and played some really beautiful shots towards the 17th over.
3. 122* – IND vs AFG, Asia Cup, 2022
After a century drought for over two years, Kohli hit a century in the Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan, which was quite relieving for all cricket fans. It was a fantastic sight to watch, plus the kind of confident innings he played. He is the best batter in the world and proved it that day. Post that century, he didn’t stop, and his confidence didn’t go down, which was a good thing.
