Ranking Trent Boult’s top 3 performances in Test Cricket

Trent Boult is regarded as one of the finest bowlers in New Zealand team’s history. With his blistering pace and fearsome swing, the left-arm pacer is famous for demolishing the opposition’s top order in the very first over. Boult previously represented the Black Caps in all the three formats and has taken 611 wickets in 253 matches.

The Rotorua-born cricketer made his Test debut in December 2011 and went on to play 78 matches. Boult has taken 317 wickets with an economy rate of 3.0 and an average of 27.5. He has 10 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul in red ball cricket. As the veteran fast bowler turns 35 today (July 22), let’s take a look at his top three performances in the longer format of the game.

Here are Trent Boult’s top three performances in Test cricket:

3. 6/68 vs England, Auckland, 2013

vs England Auckland 2013

Boult left the English batters clueless in the third Test of England tour of New Zealand in 2013. Batting first, New Zealand had scored 443 and England’s response ended on 204, thanks to a six-wicket haul from Boult. The visitors failed to deal with his left-arm swing. The match eventually ended in a draw as the Kiwi bowlers failed to take England’s last wicket on the final day.

2. 6/32 vs England, Auckland, 2018

vs England Auckland 2018

Boult and Tim Southee showed what complete demolition looks like in the first Test of England tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2018. The Kiwi

pace duo collectively grabbed 10 wickets to bundle out the visitors for just 58 runs in the first innings. Boult took six wickets for 32 runs, while Southee grabbed four wickets for 25 runs. England managed to score only 320 runs in the second innings, handing the Black Caps a clinical win of an innings and 49 runs.

1. 6/30 vs Sri Lanka, Christchurch, 2018

vs Sri Lanka Christchurch 2018

Boult recorded his best performances in Test cricket during the second Test of Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand in 2018. The left-arm seamer was not able to take a wicket in his first 10 overs but his late burst ruined the Lankan batting unit. He took six wickets for just four runs off 15 balls to bowl Sri Lanka out for 104 runs in their first innings in Christchurch. Chasing an impossible target of 660 runs, the hosts were bowled out for 236 runs. Boult took three wickets in the second innings as his team won by a massive 423 runs.
