Ranking top 3 greatest fielders in cricket history

Fielding has been one of the most underrated aspects of the game. There was a time in the game when players across the globe didn’t give too much importance to this particular aspect of the game. However, with the game becoming professional and the advent of T20 cricket, fielding has improved among the top teams in longer formats as well.

The improved fielding standards of the game across formats have changed the game. Over the years, there have been a lot of great fielders in the game. However, in this listicle, we will discuss the three best fielders in the history of the game.

Three best fielders:

1. Jonty Rhodes

Talking about ranking good fielders and not discussing the former South Africa international is a matter of great sin. He is the only player to earn Player Of The Match awards for his fielding performances. Not many players had the privilege to do so. Looking at his fielding in the 90s, it makes us feel like he was way ahead of the game. After all, not many or hardly any players used to field like Rhodes in that era.

2. Suresh Raina

The two-time World Championship winner for India was one of those players who complimented MS Dhoni’s crusade of creating the best fielding side. Not to forget, he urged the selectors to drop the likes of Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly from the ODI team ahead of the Tri-Series in Australia in early 2008.

Raina was one of the best fielders going around in the game. Even though the team had fielded in some of the games for a few years, Raina was always the one who would do well in the fielding department.

3. Ricky Ponting

The three-time World Cup winner (two as captain) was one of the best fielders across different places on the field. His slip fielding was one of the best as the ball travels quickly off the edge of the bat. However, Ponting made it look easy. Also, he had a quick arm which meant that taking an extra risk by the opposition batters used to be out of the equation in fear of a run-out.
