Saturday was a sad day for the billions of cricket fans around the world. After 12 years at the top level, Shikhar Dhawan decided to call time on his career with a video message. The 38-year-old had decided to retire from all formats of the game with his future in IPL still up in the air.
Shikhar Dhawan had made a late entry into the Test format. The left-handed batter played his first game for India in the longest format of the game in Mohali against Australia at the age of 27 in 2013.
In the next five years, Shikhar Dhawan could manage only 34 Test matches for India. In a total of 34 games in the longest format, Dhawan had scored 2315 runs with the bat with an average of 40. He also smashed 7 centuries and five fifties before playing his final Test match against England in 2018 at the Oval Stadium.

Shikhar Dhawan decided to punish the Bangladeshi bowlers in the only test match that was played in 2015. The left-handed batter played the aggressor as he scored 173 runs from 195 balls with 23 fours. Dhawan had scored 173 out of the 283-run opening stand with Murali Vijay who had scored 150 runs from 272 balls. India had scored 462 with the bat as Ajinkya Rahane scored 98 before being dismissed as the innings was declared. Bangladesh were all out for 256 and India enforced the follow-on but constant rains meant that the game ended in a draw.
2- 187 vs Australia -Mohali – 2013
After India had dropped Virender Sehwag after the Hyderabad Test vs Australia, it was decided that Shikar Dhawan was to be tried. The left-handed batter began dominating the Australian bowling attack in his very first innings as he scored a memorable ton. What made this knock special was that the century came off just 85 balls to make Dhawan the fastest century-maker on his debut. Shikhar Dhawan scored 187 off 174 balls with 33 fours and 2 sixes as India won the game by 6 wickets.

1- 190 vs Sri Lanka -Galle-2017
Shikhar Dhawan had a special love for the Sri Lankan cricket Team. The left-handed batter scored his highest Test score in Galle during the 2017 tour where India won the series 3-0. Shikhar Dhawan scored 190 runs from 168 balls with 31 hits to the fence and added 253 runs for the 2nd wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara as India scored 600 on the board. India won the game by a massive margin of 304 runs to set the marker in the series as Shikhar Dhawan was given man of the match for his performance.
