Daren Sammy was one of the most pivotal players for West Indies in the recent past. His exploits made West Indies twice T20 World Champions in 2012 and 2016 but he made some crucial contributions in ODI cricket as well. In this article, we will take a look at the top 3 innings of Daren Sammy in ODI cricket.

89 vs Ireland, 2015

Daren Sammy played his best ODI innings against Ireland at the ODI World Cup in 2015. This knock came in a losing cause but it was the all-rounder whose partnership with Lendl Simmons ensured that West Indies posted 304 runs on the board at the end of the first innings. Simmons made a century whereas Sammy assisted him with an 89-run knock in a crucial cause.

84 vs Australia,2012

The former West Indian skipper would step up against major opposition like Australia. This is his other effort that went in vain but displayed his belligerent character to fight for his team till the last ball. In this match, Australia put up 281 runs on the board in the first innings and gave a tough job to the West Indies in the run chase.

It was a disaster for the West Indies in the second innings as they lost 7 wickets for just 118 runs. Sammy tried to keep the team in the contest with Andre Russel which was not enough for West Indies. He ended up with 84 runs whereas West Indies lost the match by 30 runs.

63* vs India, 2013

Unlike the two previous performances this performance came in a winning cause. His contribution to the lower middle order was the reason behind the West Indies’ victory in a thrilling fashion. Along with some crucial knocks from Kieran Powell, Darren Bravo, and Lendl Simmons it was Sammy’s effort that made the difference. West Indies chased 289 runs in the last over and Sammy was adjudged the player of the match for his all-round performance.
