Ranking Corey Anderson’s Top 3 Bowling Performances

Few players are known more by “what could have been” than what they are and Corey Anderson is one such player. The immensely talented former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson was considered one of the long-term prospects for New Zealand cricket when he set foot in international cricket but those expectations remained unfulfilled. However, there were some performances from the Kiwi all-rounder that garnered praise from cricket fans. In this article, we will recollect his top 3 bowling performances (across formats) in his brief international career.

Corey Anderson delivered his best bowling performance in test cricket against West Indies where he picked up 3 wickets in a tidy spell. He picked up these wickets in the first innings of the test match and assisted other bowlers in preventing West Indies from going beyond the 400-run mark. The all-rounder dismissed Marlon Samuel, Narsingh Deonarine, and Denesh Ramdin who were very crucial figures in the West Indies’ batting order.

2. 5/63 vs India, 2014

The left-handed all-rounder brought his best with the ball against India in ODI cricket in a game that ended in a tie. New Zealand, batting first, put up 314 runs on the board and set a challenging target for India to chase in the second innings. In the second innings, Anderson emerged as the primary threat to the Indian batting unit as he dismissed some of the most important batters. In a double strike, he sent back both the openers, Rohit and Shikhar, who were batting brilliantly and provided a solid start. Later he added the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, and Mohammed Shami to complete his 5-wicket haul.

3. 2/17 vs Pakistan, 2016

An economical spell with a couple of crucial wickets to trouble the opposition is the best bowling performance from Corey Anderson in T20 cricket. The Kiwis were looking to defend a challenging target of 197 runs in the second innings when the young Southpaw all-rounder played a key role in restricting Pakistan to a miserable total of 101 runs in a massive run chase. His dismissals of Ahmed Shehzad and Shoaib Malik were crucial in the context of the match as they could stabilize the derailing innings of Pakistan.
