Ranking Amit Mishra’s top 3 Test performances

Amit Mishra had a very short-lived test career but he delivered some memorable spells which paved the way for India to multiple triumphs. The leg-spinner will be remembered predominantly for his exploits in the white ball cricket and IPL but there are some remarkable test performances from him that should be reminisced.

Let’s take a look at Amit Mishra’s top 3 test performances:

1. 5/71 vs Australia, 2008

Amit Mishra delivered the best spell of his test career in the very first match that he played in the whites for India. He made his test debut at Mohali against a dominant Australian side. The Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, won the toss and elected to bat first. Through a brilliant batting display, India put up 469 runs on the board in the first innings.

India needed an equally impressive bowling performance if they had to take a lead over the Australians. Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, and Harbhajan Singh made crucial contributions with the ball but Amit Mishra was the pick of the bowlers with 5 wickets in his tally. He dismissed the likes of Shane Watson, Michael Clarke, and Simon Katich among others. India took a massive lead and eventually won the match by 320 runs.

2. 4/43 vs Sri Lanka, 2015

This was the second-best performance of Amit Mishra in his test career and he achieved these numbers against Sri Lanka in Colombo. In the second test match of the series, India thumped the Lankan Lions convincingly by 278 runs. Amit Mishra played a big role in handing India the lead in the first innings.

The leg-spinner scalped important wickets to restrict Sri Lanka to 306 runs and got India a lead of 87 runs. Team India capitalized on this and extended it to give Sri Lanka a tough target which, in the end, seemed impossible to chase.

3. 4/92 vs Bangladesh, 2010

Another 4-fer from Amit Mishra in a winning cause. It was the first match of the test series between India and Bangladesh at Chattogram where Amit Mishra led the team to a comfortable victory.

India batted first and scored 243 runs on a tricky wicket. Bangladesh gave a strong reply by putting 242 runs on the board, conceding just a 1-run lead. In the second innings, India batted much better scoring 413 runs, and gave a challenging target for Bangladesh. Amit Mishra was instrumental with his 4 wickets in restricting Bangladesh to 301 runs.
