Ajit Agarkar’s best performance with the ball in test cricket came against Australia in the historic Adelaide test. India won the test match courtesy of a double-century from Rahul Dravid but Ajit Agarkar had an equally important role in India’s victory.

India was trailing at the end of the first innings and bowlers had to step up if Australia were to be prevented from setting a big target. Agarkar picked up 6 crucial wickets in the second innings to bowl Australia out for 196 runs. He dismissed the likes of Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, and Simon Katich among other wickets to put India in a pole position in the contest.

2. 3/43 vs Australia, 1999

Most of his impactful bowling performances in his test career came against the mighty Aussies. In this spell, he picked up 3 wickets at Adelaide in the first test match of the series. He got his first couple of wickets by dismissing Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh in quick succession to put Australia in a spot of bother. Later in the innings he also got the better of Greg Blewett who was batting on 88. India could not win this match but Agarkar’s spell in the second innings kept the team in the contest.

3. 3/51 vs Australia, 1999

Agarkar got 3 wickets against an Australian batting unit that was dominating the course of the game in that match. In this match as well, he sent back some of the most important batters in the Australian team, such as Michel Slater, Justin Langer and the captain Steve Waugh.
