The third and final Test match between India and New Zealand is all set to go underway in Mumbai. With the visitors already having sealed the series with wins in the previous two matches in Bengaluru and Pune, the Mumbai encounter becomes a crucial one for India. A lot is at stake for the home side.
A loss here would hamper their chances at a spot in the World Test Championship Final. This also will be the first instance when a team travelling to India whitewashes them in a three-match series. To prevent that from happening, key players will have to step up and do well for their team.
Here are the players that can do well for India in the upcoming Test
1. Rohit Sharma
The Indian skipper has not been at his best throughout the series. Apart from a half-century in Bengaluru, he hasn’t done anything noteworthy in the two matches so far. However, this could change really quickly and what better place to do it other than his home ground?
The Mumbai cricketer knows the conditions really well and can adapt to them in the upcoming match. The bounce and the pace on offer at the wicket in Wankhede suit Rohit’s style and he will be crucial for India to bounce back in the series.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most experienced campaigners in the Indian team. While he did not have the best time in the last two matches, he will be eager to deliver a match-winning performance with the ball and the bat for his team.
As the game progresses, the wicket will assist the spinners more, bringing Ashwin in for a good run. So far, the veteran all-rounder has picked up six wickets in the series but will look to get more in the all-important match.
3. Jasprit Bumrah
Irrespective of the conditions, Jasprit Bumrah has become India’s go-to bowler. His ability to get wickets and pull back his team from dire situations makes him the most sought-after player in any match that he participates in.
While he has not had much time to show what he is capable of doing in this series, the wicket in Mumbai will provide him with good assistance early on in the game. Bumrah can take advantage of the bounce on offer early on in the game.
