Predicting Sri Lanka’s playing XI vs Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023

In this article let’s take a look at the probable Sri Lanka’s playing XI in ODI World Cup 2023. Sri Lanka is going through a horrible run in the ODI World Cup so far. Mathematically they are still in contention to qualify for the knockouts but for all practical purposes, they are out of that race. Sri Lanka still has two games to play and restore their lost pride. Their next assignment would be against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Top Order

Sri Lankan batting order has not clicked in the tournament the way they would have wanted but they would look for continuity as they don’t have many options. The management has brought Dimuth Karunaratne back in the mix and he will be continuing in the next match as well. Pathum Nissanka has been one of the most consistent batters in this Sri Lankan batting order. He has multiple half-centuries and against Bangladesh, he will have another opportunity to score big. 

At No.3 skipper Kusal Mendis would look to provide some solidity to a stumbling Sri Lankan batting lineup. He had a brilliant start to the tournament with a century against Pakistan but the wicketkeeper-batsman has not been able to capitalize on that start. 

Middle Order

The Sri Lankan middle order has the potential to post big totals on the board but this World Cup has been a tough ride for them. Sadeera Samarawickrama is one of the bright spots in that middle order with consistent scores. Sri Lanka will again rely on Samarawickrama’s composure. 

Angelo Mathews, Charith Asalanka, and Dushan Hemantha will form the rest of the middle order. Hemantha has been brought in place for Dhananjaya De Silva and the management will be hoping that he contributes with the bat as well. 

Bowling Unit

Dilshan Madushanka had a wonderful outing against India in the last match though he was a little expensive. The left-arm pacer had 5 wickets to his name dismissing some of the biggest names in the Indian batting order. His pace partners would be Kasun Rajitha and Dushmantha Chameera. Chameera has been added to the squad recently. Maheesh Theekshana and Dushan Hemantha would look to exploit the Delhi track as spinners.
