It is the huge Melbourne Derby in the Women’s Big Bash League 2024 that is set to catch the imagination of fans. Both sides are coming into the game on the back of a loss. While the Stars had lost to Sydney Sixers on the DLS rule, the Renegades failed to chase down a small total against the Perth Scorchers.
Just like the Stars, even the Renegades have four points in the bag. Renegades though have played a game more than their state rivals. As the tournament gets to the halfway mark there is a need for more wins to stay closer to the playoff stages.
Here is the likely Melbourne Renegades XI vs Melbourne Stars
Top order – Hayley Matthews and Courtney Webb
Renegades skipper Hayley Matthews is known to be a dangerous batter and can give the ball a fair whack. If the Renegades have to win the game and make their upwards in the table, they would need Matthews to do the scoring. Matthews will also need her partner Webb to do some scoring after her first ball duck in the last game.
Middle Order – Alice Capsey, Naomi Stalenberg, Georgia Wareham, Deandra Dottin
In the game against Perth, it was evident that the team was let down by their middle order’s collapse. Capsey scored a duck while Stalenburg and Wareham scored 9 and 6 runs each. It was only Dottin who put up a fair fight as she scored 40 with the bat and was the top scorer for her team. The only saving grace was Capsey taking a fifer to restrict Perth to 108 runs.
Lower-order – Nicole Faltum, Sarah Coyle, Milly Illingworth
Just like the middle-order, even the lower middle-order was a huge letdown against Perth. Barring 21 not out by Sarah Coyle the other batters didn’t even come close to putting pressure on the Perth bowlers.
Tail enders – Charis Bekker and Emma De Broughe
Finally coming to the bowlers, both Bekker and De Broughe didn’t get a chance to roll their arms over. The two players will hope to catch the attention of their skipper in the big game against Melbourne Stars and hope to do well with the ball.
