Predicting Ireland’s Playing XI for their second T20I against South Africa

Predicting Ireland’s Playing XI for their second T20I against South Africa

Ireland begin their journey to the 2026 T20I World Cup with a huge series against South Africa. The Ireland side didn’t have a great tournament during the 2024 T20 World Cup. Often called as one of the darkhorses of any global tournament the Irish side were out of sorts during the tournament.

The team possesses almost the core of the squad that has been playing together for the last few years. Veteran star Paul Stirling has been one of the most experienced for Ireland with his amazing numbers with the bat.

Ireland will know that the South Africans are a tough side to beat. Their opponents are still wounded having lost the T20 World Cup final to India by a close margin. It will be a huge challenge for Ireland if they have to give a tough fight to the proteas side.

Here is the likely Ireland XI against South Africa

Openers – Paul Stirling and Ross Adair

Ireland skipper Paul Stirling will be keen to get going in the series with a fine start. The 34-year-old is a dangerous batter against the new ball and Aiden Markram will be wary of his threat. Ross Adair also has huge experience and the batter can smash the best bowlers around on his given day.

Middle-Order – Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker

Young sensation Harry Tector has already carved a niche out for himself with the bat. The right-handed batter is a key to Ireland’s chances in the middle order. Lorcan Tucker is not only a safe wicketkeeper but also a consistent performer with the bat. Tucker can play well against the spinners which could be a key aspect for the Irish side.

All-Rounders – Curtis Campher, Geroge Dockrell, Matthew Humphreys

Fast bowling all-rounder Curtis Campher showed his talents and value during his few knocks in the T20 World Cup. Curtis Campher is also very deceptive with the ball and can take wickets with the new ball and also the old ball. Veteran star George Dockrell has been around for a long time. His left-arm spinners and batting in the middle order will be crucial for Ireland. Young Matthew Humphreys will also want to give an account for himself and ingrain himself more into the team.

Bowlers – Mark Adair, Graham Hume, Craig Young, and Ben White

The seam bowling department will be resting on the shoulders of Mark Adair and Ben White. The two stars have decent pace on the ball and can also swing the ball under lights to put batters under pressure. Graham Hume and Craig Young will be the other two bowlers in the side.
