Predicting India's Playing XI for their third Test against Australia

Take a look at our predictions for India’s Playing XI. Team Indiamade an amazing start to the Border Gavaskar Trophy with their huge win in Perth. Needing a series win to keep their World Test Championships finals hopes alive, Team India’s 295-run win in Perth gave them huge hopes of doing well in the next four games before ending their WTC cycle.

Rohit Sharma and his men were brought down to earth with a huge loss in Adelaide. Mitchell Starc’s six wickets in the 1st innings and Travis Head’s century in Adelaide meant that the hosts levelled the series with a ten wicket win. The focus now for India moves to Brisbane where the third test is set to be played.

Last time India played a game at this venue, Ajinkya Rahane was the skipper and led the side to become the first team in over three decades to beat Australia at this venue. Yet another battle awaits India as Pat Cummins and his men have their tails up after their huge win in Adelaide.

Here is the likely India’s Playing XI vs Australia

Top order –

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Onus of seeing out the new ball will fall on the shoulders of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Both batters will heave a sigh of relief with the Tests returning to the red ball format after the tough time they faced with the pink ball. Young Yashasvi Jaiswal in particular will want to come back to form after a dismal outing in Perth. KL Rahul on the other hand will want to make the chance count and convert his starts into a big score.

Middle Order –

Shubman Gill

Last time Shubman Gill batted at this venue, the right-handed batter scored 91 to help India chase down the total. Gill has to take confidence from the innings and get back to his best form. Virat Kohli batted just once at this venue and failed to score much during the 2014 series where he had registered four centuries. Rishabh Pant is yet another batter who will have great memories of this venue as he scored an unbeaten 89 to help India win the series.

Lower-order –

Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma batted in number six slot during the second Test match and scored just 9 runs. The 37-year-old scored 44 and 7 the last time India played in Brisbane and will be looking to come back to form. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been India’s best young talent during the current series with the bat and ball. R. Ashwin has been out of form with the ball and will want to do well during the 3rd Test.

Tail enders –

Jasprit Bumrah

Indian pace ace Jasprit Bumrah has been the best bowler across the two sides with 12 wickets in the series. The 31-year-old will be a dangerous customer in Gabba with the pitch likely to have pace and bounce. Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana will be expected to give Bumrah adequate support and also pick key wickets. Siraj in particular will have a good memory of this ground having picked his maiden Test fifer here.

India XI vs Australia

Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Rohit Sharma (C), Nitish Kumar Reddy, R. Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana.
