Stand-in skipper Liam Livingstone scored a terrific century to help his team win the game by five wickets. The win came with 15 balls left to play as the series is now locked at 1-1 each. England didn’t start the tour well as they lost the opening match on the back of Duckworth and Lewis method.
With Brendon McCullum set to take over as the new coach, and the likes of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes still out the new England team have shown good character. Some of the younger players like Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley have been impressive so far.
Livingstone praised his team at the end of the game on Saturday and said “We took wickets throughout; we were sloppy on the field but our bowlers did well. Looking forward to Barbados. We have got a lot of young boys still learning the ropes in international cricket, will do them a world of good, rest up and try to win the series”
Here is the likely England XI vs West Indies
Top order –Phil Salt and Will Jacks
England wicketkeeper and batter Phil Salt finally found his form with an attacking 59. That helped his side get a quick start in pursuit of the huge total. Will Jacks scored 12 with the bat and went wicketless and the English management will hope that Jacks comes good in Barbados and helps them win the series.
Middle Order – Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran
Young batter Jordan Cox hasn’t had a great start to his England career with just 21 runs so far. Jacob Bethell played well to score 55 runs in the last game which helped England turn their fortunes around. Livingstone and Sam Curran have served huge notice ahead of the IPL auctions. The England skipper was not out on 124 off 85 balls with Sam Curran scoring 52 as the pair added 140 runs for the 5th wicket.
Lower-order – Dan Mousley, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer
England’s lower order will depend on the experience of Dan Mousley and Adil Rashid who aren’t just good bowlers but can also wield the willow. Jofra Archer bowled well on Saturday with figures of 1/40 from his 9 overs and will be keen to return home to Barbados and show what he can do with the ball.
Tail enders – John Turner and Saqib Mahmood
John Turner bowled with good pace in the last game to dismiss both the West Indian openers. More of the same will be expected from the South African born pace sensation. Saqib Mahmood hasn’t been consistent with his performances but the 27-year-old has the knack of picking up his game when needed.
