Predicting England’s playing 11 for the 1st T20I against Australia

After starting the home summer with back-back Test series wins against West Indies and Sri Lanka, England is all set to host Australia for the white-ball series. The series will kick off with the first T20I match at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on the 11th of September.

While some big names are missing from England’s squad, including Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow, they boast a great squad with some match-winners on their side. Here, we look at England’s Probable XI for their first T20I against Australia.

Here is England’s Probable XI:

Top-order

Will Jacks, Phil Salt, Jordan Cox

In the absence of Buttler, Phil Salt has been handed over the reins of the team. Along with Will Jacks, he can form an explosive opening pair that can take on any bowling attack. In the match against Australia, they would look to get a quick start with the bat and set a good foundation for the team.

With limited options in the batting line-up, England could bring in a few debutants to the team. Jordan Cox could play his first game for England at number three. He will have a huge responsibility in this position.

Middle-order

Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Brydon Carse

Jacob Bethell is another batter who could debut for the English side in the first T20I but will have to do well to make a lasting impression against the mighty Australian side. He could end up playing at number four.

Meanwhile, Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran are no-brainers for their extraordinary batting and finishing skills. Both these players can be handy with the ball as well. As for Brydon Carse, he is returning to the T20I setup after over a year. He will have a point to prove in the upcoming game.

Bowlers

Jofra Archer, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley

Pacer Jofra Archer will be back on the English side to lead the attack. His performance would be very crucial for the side to do well against Australia at home. Reece Topley and Saqib Mahmood will support Archer in the fast bowling department.

Adil Rashid could be the sole spinner used in the match. He is the most experienced campaigner on the side and will be crucial to get the better of Australia.
