Current ODI World Cup winners Australia saw their winning run snapped when they lost the 3rd ODI against England. With two more games to be played the Australian side will want to wrap up the series with a win during the 4th ODI on Friday.
Mitchell Marsh and his side lost the 3rd ODI despite scoring 304 on the board. The decision to rest Travis Head and Adam Zampa came back to haunt the visitors. Apart from Mitchell Starc none of the other Australian bowlers could do much to impact the English batting side.
Ahead of the 4th ODI, the visitors will have to go back to the drawing board to come up with a better plan. Win on Friday will seal the series but a loss will ensure the Aussies go to Bristol against a rampant and energized England side looking to win the series.
Here is the likely Australia Xi for the 4th ODI vs England
Openers – Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh
Australia will look to call back Travis Head and bench Matthew Short for the game. The left-handed batter has been in terrific form over the last 18 months. Without the left-handed batter, Australia struggled to get going. The visitors will also hope their skipper comes good with the bat as he has been getting starts but not converting them.
Middle-order – Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey
Australian fans will be happy to see veteran batter Steve Smith finally get back to his run-scoring form. The right-handed batter scored 60 during the 3rd ODI to showcase his class. Marnus Labuschagne was out for a duck but the batter has too much class not to score runs. Alex Carey scored his 2nd successive fifty of the series to show how dangerous he is in the middle order.
All-rounders – Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie
Cameron Green batted well to score 42 runs and also picked up 2 wickets during the game. The all-rounder will hope to do more with the bat and ball and help his side seal the series on Friday. Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Hardie were enterprising with the bat but the duo stayed wicketless with the ball.
Bowlers – Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, and Josh Hazlewood
Left-arm pace ace Mitchell Starc got Australia two early wickets that of Phil Salt and Ben Duckett. The veteran star bowled with good pace and was hostile but lacked support from the other end. Josh Hazlewood has had a quiet time so far and will want to bounce back. Adam Zampa was rested in the last game and one expects him to be playing the 4th game instead of Sean Abbott.
Australia’s Likely XI for 4th ODI vs England
Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh (Captain), Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey, Aaron Hardie, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa.
